Already as a teenager in Germany I was intrigued by Yoga. When I arrived in Williamstown, I finally had the opportunity to attend yoga classes. But since there were no studios here at the time, the challenge was to find yoga classes that were taught on a regular basis. Often the classes were only available eight weeks at a time. Over the years I practiced with various teachers and therefore was learning and practicing different styles of yoga such as Kripalu, Iyengar, Anusara and Hatha Yoga. Finally, after my last teacher left for the summer to meet the Dali Lama, I found an Ad by Vidya Jacqueline Heisel, the Founder of Frog Lotus Yoga, offering Ashtanga Yoga. Wanting to continue my practice, I joined her class. Ashtanga yoga was quite different than any of the other styles of yoga I was accustomed to. Even though it was a challenge in the beginning, I took class every week and over time came to see the benefits. Then I added a weekly Vinyasa Flow class to my practice.
In 2002 Vidya opened the Frog Lotus Yoga Studio and offered her first teacher training class in the fall. I wanted to deepen my practice and so in December 2002 I completed the 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Program and was certified to teach by Frog Lotus Yoga. With my certificate in hand I taught Vinyasa Flow Yoga at Frog Lotus Yoga for several years. While I was teaching, I was lucky to attend workshops with David Swenson and Ana Forrest. After a while the life, work, teaching balance was a little too much and I continued to go to Frog Lotus Yoga as a student. It was my good fortune to have Jennifer Yarro as a teacher and mentor for nine years. During that time I have learned so much more about safety, alignment, and sequencing.
When I started to practice yoga so many years ago, I was eager to learn the poses, but soon I realized that over time a transformation took place. I was more grounded, healthier and content.
Now that my life has calmed down, I am happy to be able to teach at Frog Lotus Yoga once more to share what I have learned.
