Everything in its right time is beautiful.
Ever since I was very young, I had a deep love of physical movement. I tried all kinds of sports and quickly came to love dance. After many wonderful years training with the same school and performing in their company, I graduated and found the world of professional dance to be harsh, with constant pressure to be thin and negative messages about the body. Discouraged, I stopped dancing. Turning to other interests, I completed two Bachelor's degrees at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia: one in Religious Studies, focusing on Eastern religions, and one in International Studies, with a concentration in Spanish.
Happily, I discovered Yoga shortly after my 23rd birthday. Yoga came into my life at the perfect time (as it tends to do) and during many personal transitions and travels in the years following my time at University, Yoga was my refuge and my rock. After college, I got a "real" job at a nonprofit supporting children worldwide. As the Assistant Director of International Divisions, I traveled extensively through Central and South America, and also opened a project in the Middle East. Although I had many rewarding experiences in my work, I began to feel more and more like an image of what I thought I was "supposed" to be, and less and less like myself.
During this time, my Yoga practice had transitioned from a daily home practice (and a serious addiction to Shiva Rea videos) to experimenting with all different styles (Ashtanga, Anusara, Kundalini, and others) and finally finding a lovely studio called Yoga Source, which specialized in Vinyasa and Iyengar, that felt like home. I still have so much gratitude for the beautiful women there who I consider my first true Yoga teachers: Tia, Myra, Karen, Cherie, and Ellie. Love to you!
Finally, I decided to take the plunge and quit my job to train as a Yoga teacher. I researched for months and kept returning to the Frog Lotus Yoga website - and I'm so glad I did! In August of 2010, I sold most of my belongings, packed the rest into my giant Volvo, and drove from Virginia to Massachusetts to train at the original Frog Lotus Yoga Studio with Jennifer Yarro. I had no idea what was going to come after, but I was so happy I didn't care! Thankfully I embraced the unknown, because what came during and after my training has been better than I would have ever imagined. I spent a year and a half working with Jennifer, teaching at the studio and all around North Adams, and then in March of 2012, I moved to Spain to work with Vidya. I completed the first half of my Advanced training with Frog Lotus in Thailand 2012 and the second half in India 2013.
It has been, and continues to be, my great honor to know and work with these two incredible women - as well as the rest of the fabulous Frog Lotus Yoga staff! I am so lucky to have such awesome beings as my teachers, colleagues, and friends.
But my greatest fortune of the whole journey has been the opportunity to be involved with the Frog Lotus Yoga teacher trainings. Supporting the students, as I was supported during my training, is my greatest joy. Sending big love to all past students and looking forward to sharing my joy and enthusiasm and deep reverence for Yoga with many of you in the future! Namaste.
